WHAT IS PAINTLESS DENT REMOVAL?
Paintless Dent Removal (PDR) is a process used to remove small dents,
dings, and hail damage without damaging the painted surface of your
vehicle. This maintains the highest value of your vehicle since it
maintains the original painted surface.
IS PDR BETTER THAN USING A BODY SHOP?
PDR is not the answer to all vehicle damage. Many vehicle collisions
cause "major" damage and will require a body shop to repair the damage.
South Bay Collision can repair minor dents and dings. These
are dents received from shopping carts, careless people who open their
doors in parking lots and hit your car, hail stone damage, falling
tree branches, acorns, etc. Minor dents can be repaired in a body
shop but it will cost at least twice as much and will take two or
three days to complete. PDR can be accomplished in far less time and
at substantially less cost.
HOW IS PAINTLESS DENT REMOVAL DONE?
Specially designed tools are used to apply pressure behind the dent.
Pressure is applied at multiple points behind the dent to slowly bring
the metal back to its original shape. A dent about the size of a quarter
may require one hundred applications of pressure to remove it.
WHAT TOOLS ARE USED?
A specially designed light fixture is used to highlight the damaged
area within a dent. Custom made hand tools are then used to apply
pressure behind the dent. The tools are designed to allow access behind
most dents without removing the inner door panels. This saves us time
and saves you money.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
A typical repair takes an hour or less. This will vary depending on
the size and number dents in the panel. Compare this to a typical
body shop visit. They usually take two or three days.
CAN ANY DENT BE FIXED?
That depends on the shape, size, and location of the dent. If the
dent is located an inch or more from the edge of a panel and you can
cover it with your hand, we can repair the dent. Even if it's larger
and runs into the edge, ask us for a free estimate. Some of those
can be repaired also, or at least improved enough to pass a lease
return inspection.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Without seeing the damage it's difficult to estimate the cost, but
an average dent repair runs between $100 and $125 plus tax. Typically,
our prices are 50% or less then body shop prices. This can save even
more on lease car returns. Some leasing companies charge substantial
fees for minor body damage. |
